Embrace Self-Compassion This Back-to-School Season

As the back-to-school season rolls around, I know how easy it is to feel like you’re juggling a million things at once. For us busy working mamas, this time can be a mix of excitement and overwhelm. 

But here’s the truth: embracing self-compassion can be your superpower to handle it all with a greater sense of ease and confidence. Even a little lightness and humor.

1. Acknowledge Your Feelings

First things first—give yourself permission to feel it all. It’s okay to be excited, stressed, or even a little bit frazzled. Recognizing and accepting your emotions as they are, without judgement, is a huge step toward managing them without adding extra pressure on yourself.

2. Set Realistic Goals

Forget about striving for perfection. Instead, focus on setting achievable goals that make sense for your busy life. Break down your tasks into bite-sized pieces and celebrate each small win. Progress is your ally here, not perfection.

3. Prioritize Self-Care

Self-care isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity. Carve out moments each day just for you, whether it’s a quick walk, a few minutes with a book, or simply taking a few deep breaths and feeling your feet on the ground. Taking care of yourself helps you stay grounded and maintain your composure and energy through the chaos.

4. Lean on Your Support System

You don’t have to do it all alone, nor should you. Reach out to your friends, family, or colleagues when you need a hand or a listening ear. Sharing your journey can lighten your load, and remind you that you’ve got an amazing support network.

5. Practice Mindfulness

Bring mindfulness into your routine. It could be as simple as taking a few moments to do a few stretches, get some sunlight on your face for a few minutes, or doing a 5 minute guided meditation. Being able to ground yourself back to the present moment will help you manage stress and approach whatever is next with a clear, focused mind.
